Timely Hits Spark Fourth Straight Thunder Win

Four runs on six hits in the late innings helped lift the Thunder to a 5-2 win over the Harrisburg Senators on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 6,624 at ARM & HAMMER Park.

The win was the Thunder's fourth in a row, the team's longest winning streak since rolling to five straight wins from May 6 to 11.

With the score tied, 2-2, Kyle Holder was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning against rehabbing Nationals right-hander Austen Williams (0-1). Holder stole second base and then scored the go-ahead run for the Thunder (25-26, 63-54) on a Rashad Crawford double to left-center. Brandon Wagner added an RBI-single two at-bats later, and Angel Aguilar topped off the rally with another run-scoring single for a 5-2 Thunder lead.

Aguilar had delivered a game-tying RBI-single off Williams the previous inning, scoring Kellin Deglan, who had doubled and taken third on a Matt Lipka sacrifice bunt.

Greg Weissert (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless and hitless innings to finish the game.

The Thunder opened the evening's scoring in the bottom of the first, as Ben Ruta hit a two-out single and took third on a single by Crawford. On the play, Harrisburg right fielder Michael A. Taylor's throw to third base sailed into the Senators dugout, allowing Ruta to score.

But the Senators (21-26, 64-53) struck back in the second, getting a go-ahead two-run double from Rhett Wiseman off Michael King. The Thunder starter would not allow another run, however, retiring 11 of the final 12 batters he faced over his five and two-thirds innings.

Braden Bristo bridged the gap between King and Weissert, finishing the sixth inning and pitching the Thunder out of a two-on, none-out jam in the seventh by striking out three.

The Thunder win came in spite of a dominant start by Harrisburg starter Mario Sanchez, who struck out a career-high 10 batters over six innings.
