Drazenovic's second goal of the night proved to be the key momentum swing in the third period, a reply to Mark Hartigan's second goal of the game scored only ten seconds earlier to give Grand Rapids a 4-3 lead. His marker was the second of four in the final frame for Peoria, followed by Yan Stastny's game winner from the left circle at 16:27 and Steve Wagner's insurance goal at 17:09 from the left point.

Stastny's wrist shot seemed to sneak through Berkhoel, finding room under his right pad on the off-angle shot and taking the wind out of the Griffins' sails.

Wagner's goal, his second as a Rivermen, found its way in through a screen in front of the Grand Rapids net.

Carl Corazzini opened the scoring with his 12th of the year at 9:18 after picking up the rebound off the shoulder of a Tom Galvin drive, poking it past Marek Schwarz for a 1-0 Griffins lead.

Drazenovic would respond for the Rivermen, picking up a loose puck in the neutral zone and moving in on the left wing before wristing a shot over the shoulder of Adam Berkhoel to even the contest. Jean-Guy Trudel assisted on the goal at 14:19 to even the contest.

Mark Cullen and Hartigan scored two and a half minutes apart to open the second period and move the Griffins out to a 3-1 lead. Grand Rapids capitalized twice on its strong start to the period, but slowly the Rivermen clawed back into the frame. Stastny potted his seventh of the season from Mike Glumac and Chris Porter, firing a rebound past Berkhoel on the blocker side after a three-shot scramble in front of the cage to make it 3-2 after two periods of play.

Nikolay Lemtyugov's unassisted goal at 6:45 of the third period tied the game at three.

The game featured only three total penalties, two against the Griffins. Oddly enough, both penalties against Grand Rapids were bench minors, the first for Too Many Men and the second for an Illegal Stick from the Bench, called when a member of the Griffins threw a stick to a teammate on the ice instead of handing it to him.
