Dayton Dragons News Release

Lansing, Mich.-Mike Konstanty's run-scoring single with two outs in the top of the 13th inning broke a 2-2 and ignited a four-run inning as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 6-2 on Monday night. With the win in the second longest game of the season, the Dragons completed a sweep of the four-game series and improved their second half record to 22-21.

Konstanty, who had just nine hits in 74 at-bats (.122) over his last 23 games, collected three hits including a two-run double off the left field fence in the fourth inning that accounted for the Dragons only runs prior to the 13th. But his biggest hit came with Carlos Mendez at second, Alex Oliveras at first, and two outs in the top of the 13th. With the teams stalemated at 2-2 since the fourth inning, Konstanty grounded a single through the middle to drive in Mendez and break the tie.

Chase Weems followed Kontanty's hit with single to right to score Oliveras, and Miguel Rojas singled to right to score Konstanty. Tony Brown then capped off the inning with a hit to left to bring in Weems and make it 6-2. The Dragons collected six hits in the inning, one more than they had over the first 12 frames.

Mark James pitched a scoreless bottom half of the 13th to close out the series sweep for the Dragons.

Lansing scored a pair of runs against Dayton starting pitcher Ezequiel Infante in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Dragons tied the game on Konstanty's two-run double in the fourth to make it 2-2.

Infante, coming off a performance last Wednesday when he threw six no-hit innings, had an effective outing but one that did not compare to the previous game. He worked five innings, allowing two runs on nine hits (all singles), no walks, and five strikeouts.

Lansing's last hit against Infante in the fifth was their final hit until the 13th inning. Dragons reliever Justin Walker was outstanding, working five hitless innings. He retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced, allowing only a walk. Walker struck out five in just his second game with the club.

Donnie Joseph (1-0) faced Walker in the 11th and tossed two hitless innings, striking out five to earn the victory. He walked two in the 12th and stranded the winning run at third base.

The Dayton win coupled with a South Bend victory over Fort Wayne keeps the Dragons one game ahead of South Bend in the race for the Eastern Division playoff wildcard slot with 26 games to play.

The Dragons (22-21, 50-63) return home on Tuesday to host the West Michigan Whitecaps (25-19, 68-46) at Fifth Third Field at 7:00 p.m. Oscar Castro (2-4, 7.08) will start for Dayton.
