West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

MIDLAND, MI- For just the second time in 2009 the West Michigan Whitecaps were swept in a series. The Whitecaps fell to the Great Lakes Loons, 7-4, at Dow Diamond on Monday night in a rain-shortened seven inning game. The Loons took all four games from the ‘Caps. Great Lakes wins the season series ten games to nine.

The Whitecaps got some early help from Loons' starter Bobby Blevins. Blevins surrendered 3 hits and two, bases-loaded walks in the first for a 2-0 ‘Caps' lead.

Whitecaps' starter Casey Crosby cruised through three innings but then left the game. Brandon Hamilton came on in relief and gave up 3 hits and 3 walks to put the Loons ahead, 3-2. Angelo Songco had a two-out, two-run double.

West Michigan got a two-out hit from Jordan Lennerton in the top of the fifth that looked like it would score Brent Wyatt to tie the game. Great Lakes' center fielder Alfredo Silverio came up with a perfect throw to the plate to cut down Wyatt and end the inning.

Two runs by the Loons in the bottom of the fifth put Great Lakes ahead, 5-2. ‘Caps reliever Rob Waite gave up two-out RBI hits to Anthony Hatch and Matt Wallach.

A bizarre top of the seventh brought the ‘Caps back to within one run. Loons' reliever Jordan Pratt was ejected after hitting Brent Wyatt. In the ensuing argument, Loons' manager Juan Bustabad was thrown out. The Whitecaps used two more bases-loaded walks to plate two runs and make the score, 5-4.

Great Lakes scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead back to three, 7-4.

Heavy rain fell as the game moved to the eighth, and the game was halted.

Brandon Hamilton takes the loss. He's now 4-4. Bobby Blevins picks up his 8th win of the year.

West Michigan moves to Dayton, OH for a four-game series starting on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field.
