
Scarpetta and Fiers shut out Chiefs, stop losing streak

AUGUSTA, N.J. - After squeaking out a 6-5 extra innings-victory in the first game, Brockton took advantage of Sussex miscues to win the second game, 7-2, and sweep a doubleheader on Monday night at Skylands Park.
GAME 1 - BROCKTON 6 SUSSEX 5 (8 innings)
Chris Grossman lined a two-run single to center with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the eighth to send Brockton to a 6-5 win over Sussex in Game One. After a Sussex error kept the inning alive, Grossman took a 1-2 pitch up the middle, scoring Philip Cuadrado from second and Keith Brachold from third.
Steve Delabar threw 1 2/3 innings of relief to get the win for Brockton. Gerry Dunn earned the save after pitching the eighth. Sandy Nin gave up two unearned runs for the loss.
Grossman finished 3-for-4 for Brockton, which erased a four run deficit with two runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Mark Pappas was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored for Sussex.

GAME 2 - BROCKTON 7 SUSSEX 2
Brockton took advantage of five Sussex errors as the Rox cruised to a 7-2 win in the nightcap.
Chris Valencia went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Melvin Falu drilled a two run homerun in the third to power the Rox offensively.
Paul Lussier worked five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits to pick up the win. Tim Stringer gave up six runs (three earned) over four innings to get the loss for Sussex.
Sussex and Brockton return to Skylands Park on Tuesday for a 7:05 p.m. game.
