July 6, 2009 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich.-Kevyn Feiner's line drive single to right with one out in the top of the ninth inning broke a 2-2 tie as the Dayton Dragons came from behind to defeat the West Michigan Whitecaps 4-2 on Monday night. The Dragons scored three runs in the top of the ninth to snap a five game losing streak.

Trailing 2-1 and batting in the ninth against West Michigan closer Tyler Stohr, who was 13 for 14 in save situations this season, Cody Puckett led off the inning by drawing a walk. After Kyle Day popped up a bunt attempt for the first out, Jordan Wideman singled to left to move Puckett to second. Tony Brown followed with a single to left to score Puckett and tie the game at 2-2. The throw to the plate bounced away from the catcher and left runners at second and third. Feiner followed by lining a single to right to bring in pinch runner Kevin Coddington from third to give Dayton a 3-2 lead. Josh Fellhauer followed with a single to right to bring in the third run of the inning and make it 4-2.

Aguido Gonzalez allowed only a two-out single in a scoreless bottom of the ninth to record his ninth save for Dayton.

The Dragons broke a long drought in games in which they trailed at the end of seven innings. They were 0-41 this season when trailing after seven, but notched their first late-inning comeback victory.

West Michigan scored two runs against Dragons starting pitcher Oscar Castro in the third inning, keyed by an RBI triple by Gustavo Nunez, to take a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Dayton's Byron Wiley led off with a home run to right field to make it 2-1. It was Wiley's fourth home run in the last two games and his ninth of the season. It was also Wiley's seventh home run in his last 13 games. Neither team scored again until the ninth.

Dayton finished with nine hits. Feiner went 3 for 4 to lead the way. Wiley walked twice in addition to his homer.

Scott Gaffney (4-3) pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Castro for the win. Castro left after six innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts, earning his fourth quality start of the year.

The Dragons (4-7, 32-48) play at West Michigan (7-4, 50-31) on Tuesday at 12:00 noon to close out the series. Lance Janke (4-4, 3.55) will start for the Dragons against Mark Sorensen (3-2, 3.04).
