Kane County Cougars News Release
CLINTON, Iowa - Pedro Figueroa won his sixth straight outing Monday night and 10th of the season, as the Kane County Cougars dispatched the Clinton LumberKings, 6-5, at Alliant Energy Field. The Cougars now are in control of the four-game series and can take three out of four with a win in Tuesday's finale. Steve Parker cracked his first pro homer, a three-run shot during a five-run first inning.
The Cougars have not trailed in their last two games. Monday their five-run first against Clinton's Maikel Cleto (0-1) became the difference. Mike Spina drove in Leonardo Gil, Parker smoked his three-run homer and Chris Berroa doubled in Dusty Napoleon as the Cougars sent 10 men to the plate right away. Their final run of the night came in the fourth on Spina's fielder's choice.
Figueroa (10-3) ended his streak of consecutive quality starts at six but still managed to pick up the victory. He gave up five runs -- three earned -- on seven hits over five innings, becoming the first Cougar since 2007 and 26th in team history to reach the 10-win plateau in a single season. Matt Fitts notched two scoreless innings to hold the lead, and Justin Murray handled the final two innings and fanned four for his fourth save.
The Cougars (6-5, 47-34) and LumberKings (5-6, 45-36) conclude the series Tuesday night at 7 CDT. Anthony Capra (2-6, 3.94) will face Bobby LaFromboise (5-3, 3.61).
