
Melville and Hardy Combine To Allow Just Three Hits in Win

Burlington, IA (July 5, 2009) - The Burlington Bees defeated Wisconsin 4-2 Monday night at Community Field. Tim Melville pitched six innings for the win while Blaine Hardy pitched three shutout innings to finish the game. The Bees are now in position to split their third consecutive series going into Tuesday's series finale.
The Bees scored the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Eric Hosmer hit a solo homerun to right field to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. The homerun was Hosmer's fourth of the season. Wisconsin tied the ballgame with one run in the second and then took a 2-1 lead scoring one run in the third inning.
The Bees scored the final three runs of the ballgame. In the fourth, the Bees tied the ballgame back up. With one out, Jason Taylor doubled and then scored on a David Wood RBI single. The Bees took the lead in the fifth inning. Marc Maddox led off with a base hit and moved to second on a Nick Van Stratten single. Hosmer then came to the plate and singled to score Maddos and the Bees led 3-2. They added one insurance run in the eighth inning. Nick Francis led the inning off with a walk and moved to second on a Taylor hit and then to third on a Wood sacrifice. Jose Bonilla then hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Francis, which was the Bees' fourth run of the day.
Melville got the start for the Bees and also the win to move to 3-4 on the season. In six innings, he allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, on two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. The seven strikeouts tied a career-high for Melville. Blaine Hardy pitched the final three innings allowing just one hit with one strikeout and two walks. Hardy picked up his second save of the season.
The Bees outhit Wisconsin 9-3. Van Stratten, Hosmer and Taylor each had two hits. Hosmer had two RBI.
