
Dragons Burn Whitecaps In Ninth

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Kevyn Feiner laced a ninth inning single to right to give the Dayton Dragons the go-ahead run in a 4-2 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Monday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. West Michigan led 2-1 going into the ninth, but the Dragons used a walk and four straight singles to score three times for the victory. The loss ends the Whitecaps' three game win streak while the Dragons end the five game losing skid.
A night after combining for thirty-one runs, Dayton and West Michigan became locked in a pitcher's duel.
The 'Caps got on the board against Dayton starter Oscar Castro in the third inning. Luis Salas doubled with one out, Gustavo Nunez tripled home Salas, and Ben Guez followed Nunez with an RBI single.
The 2-0 lead for the 'Caps would be cut in half in the top of the fourth on Byron Wiley's solo home run to right.
Whitecaps' starter Bryan Villarreal was solid in his fifth start of the season. Villarreal threw six innings of four-hit ball, giving up 1 run, 2 walks and collecting 5 strikeouts.
The game would stay 2-1 in favor of West Michigan all the way until the top of the ninth. Cody Puckett walked as the lead-off hitter. Jordan Wideman, Tony Brown, Kevyn Feiner and Josh Fellhauer singled consecutively for a total of three runs. The score became 4-2 Dayton going to the bottom of the inning.
In the ninth the Whitecaps would get a two-out single by Jordan Lennerton to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs. Mike Gosse lined a shot back to the mound that Aquido Gonzalez knocked down and threw to first for the out.
Ben Guez was the only 'Cap with more than one hit. Guez finished the game 2-4 with a double.
Kevyn Feiner was 3-4 for the Dayton Dragons.
The finale of the series will played at 12:00 noon on Tuesday at Fifth Third Ball Park. Special guest announcers Bill Simonson and Jim Shorts will deliver the action on the new BBL 107.3 FM.
