After three scoreless innings, both teams came to life in the fourth. South Bend scored an unearned run against Jonas Cuotto (WP, 2-4), as Marc Krauss started the inning with a single, advancing to second on a throwing error by the left fielder. Justin Parker moved him to third with a deep fly out to right, and Krauss scored on a RBI single by Rossmel Perez for the 1-0 lead.

Lansing came right back with three runs against Randy Rodriguez (LP, 1-7) in the bottom of the fourth. Johermyn Chavez was hit by a pitch, moved to second when Chris Emanuele walked, and took third on a single by Justin McClanahan. With bases loaded and one out, Balbino Fuenmayor grounded out to short, tying the game at 1-1. A wild pitch brought home the second run, and Jon Talley's RBI double plated the third for a 3-1 Lansing lead.

The Lugnuts added two more in the fifth, with both being charged as unearned to Rodriguez. An error by Justin Parker allowed the first runner to reach, and then a walk to Brian Van Kirk put two on with one out. Emanuele and McClanahan each had RBI singles to make it a 5-3 Lugnuts lead.

South Bend began chipping away in the sixth with A.J. Pollock doubling and scoring on a ground out by Parker. The Silver Hawks added a run in the seventh against Boomer Potts (ND) in the same fashion. This time, Isaias Asencio started the inning with a double, and Jake Elmore brought him home on a ground out making it a 5-3 game.
