LANSING, Mich. - Jonas Cuotto allowed one earned run over 5 1/3 innings and the Lansing Lugnuts (4-7; 30-50) defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks (4-7; 31-48), 5-3, on Monday night at Oldsmobile Park.
Lugnuts pitchers allowed a total of 31 hits in the first two games of the series, but Cuotto (2-4) and relievers Boomer Potts and Matt Daly held South Bend to only seven hits.
Daly worked a perfect ninth to earn his 15th save of the season.
South Bend starter Randy Rodriguez (1-7) allowed five runs on five hits during his 4 2/3 innings to shoulder the loss.
Four different members of the Lugnuts lineup notched RBI in the winning effort, with second baseman Justin McClanahan snapping a 1-for-35 slump with two hits and an RBI in four at-bats.
Lansing shortstop Tyler Pastornicky had his team-high 13-game hitting streak end in an 0-for-4 showing.
The two clubs wrap up their four-game series with a Dollar Dog Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Oldsmobile Park, Lugnuts right-hander Joel Carreno (0-1, 6.75) starting against Silver Hawks southpaw Wade Miley (3-6, 4.40).
