South Bend, Ind.-Chris Owings drilled a game-winning home run leading off the bottom of the eighth inning of a scheduled seven-inning game to lift the South Bend Silver Hawks to a 2-1 victory and a doubleheader sweep of the Dayton Dragons on Saturday. The Silver Hawks won the first game 3-0.

Owings drilled the second pitch of the bottom of the eighth from Dayton reliever Ezequiel Infante over the left field fence to end the game. It was his second home run of the season.

The Dragons took the lead in the top of the sixth inning of the seven-inning game. Jordan Wideman was hit by a pitch to start the inning and went to second on Kevyn Feiner's sacrifice. Mark Fleury ran for Wideman and scored on a single to center field by Henry Rodriguez to give Dayton a 1-0 lead.

South Bend tied the game in the seventh against Dragons closer Donnie Joseph. Matt Helm walked with one out, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Errol Hollinger's single to right to make it 1-1.

Dragons starting pitcher Blair Carson was outstanding in his first start of the year but came away with no decision. He worked five and one-third innings of scoreless baseball, allowing three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

The Dragons fell to 13-16 with the loss. South Bend improved to 15-15.

The Dragons will wrap up the road trip at South Bend at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Justin Walker (1-2, 6.12) will start for Dayton against South Bend's Dan Taylor (1-2, 4.56). The Dragons next home game is Monday, May 10 against the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Fifth Third Field.
