South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - Chris Owings' walk off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning completed a doubleheader sweep for the South Bend Silver Hawks over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday evening. With the win, the Silver Hawks even their record at .500 for the third time this season.

Doubleheaders are scheduled for seven innings in the Midwest League, but that wasn't enough to determine a winner in game two. In the bottom of the eighth, Owings took the second pitch from Dayton reliever Ezequiel Infante (LP, 1-2) over the 360 mark on the left field wall, lifting the Silver Hawks to their second walk off win in the past seven days.

The dramatic finale was set up by a bottom of the seventh rally against Dayton's closer Donnie Joseph (ND). Matt Helm worked a one-out walk, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Errol Hollinger's RBI single to knot the game at 1-1 in what should have been South Bend's final at-bat.

The come-from-behind win put Brian Budrow (WP, 1-1) in the winner's column for the first time this season and neutralized the run he had allowed on a Henry Rodriguez single in the top of the sixth inning.

In game one, Chase Anderson (WP, 2-3) stole the show on the mound, going the distance for the Silver Hawks' first complete game shutout of 2010. Anderson allowed just five hits in the shortened seven inning game, striking out a team high eight batters without allowing a walk.

The offense in game one was provided by Bobby Stone with a solo home run against Josh Ravin (LP, 1-2) in the second. Matt Helm and Tyson Van Winkle added RBI singles in the fourth, with both players getting their first RBIs of the season.

The two teams wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon with a special "Pink at the Cove" Mother's Day celebration. The Silver Hawks will be wearing pink jerseys for the 2:00 PM start with the jerseys being auctioned off after the game and the profits benefitting Memorial Hospital Breast Care Center. LHP Dan Taylor (1-2, 4.56 ERA) will start for South Bend against Dayton LHP Justin Walker (1-2, 6.12 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 1:40 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com.
