FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Amidst what turned out to be a brief, heavy cloudburst, Jonathan Galvez raced home on Casey Beck's wet wild pitch and the Fort Wayne TinCaps (14-15) celebrated a wild 5-4 ten-inning victory from the Lansing Lugnuts (17-13) on Saturday afternoon at Parkview Field.

The game had looked to be in the Lugnuts' hands all day, with Lansing taking a 4-0 lead to the bottom of the ninth inning. However, the TinCaps took advantage of three hits, consecutive errors on Ryan Schimpf and Sean Ochinko, and an A.J. Jimenez passed ball to score four runs to tie the score.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, after the Lugnuts had squandered a first-and-third situation in the top half, Galvez led off against Beck (0-1) with a sharp single up the middle. Beck struck out Everett Williams, only to see Galvez steal second base with Nate Freiman at the plate. A wild pitch moved Galvez to third base.

Then the rain arrived, sweeping down in sheets and sending the TinCaps faithful scurrying for cover. After a Freiman foul ball, Beck sailed a pitch over the head of Jimenez, clinching the comeback for Fort Wayne. Ten minutes later the rain had departed, leaving clear blue skies overhead and a rainbow in the distance.

TinCaps reliever Nick Schumacher (1-1) earned the win with a scoreless tenth inning.

In defeat, Lugnuts left fielder Brad McElroy went 3-for-4 with his first home run of the year. Lansing also stole six bases in the game, two by McElroy, but went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The Lugnuts and TinCaps play the rubber match in their three-game series at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Lansing right-hander Ryan Shopshire (2-1, 5.45) is slated to start against Fort Wayne right-hander John Hussey (2-0, 4.68).

The Nuts return home on Monday, May 10, for a three-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
