St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN - Carrying a perfect game into the sixth inning, Hunter Dollander (Georgia-Gwinnett) led St. Cloud (12-6) to a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Mud Puppies (3-9)
The Rox' fourth straight win keeps them at the top of the Great Plains West. St. Cloud has now won 10 of its last 12 games to propel itselves to first place in the division.
Dollander went six innings in his first start of the season for the Rox. Retiring the first 15 batters in a row, Dollander was almost untouchable. He struck out five batters and earned his first win of the summer.
Offensively, the bats took a few innings to wake up for the second consecutive night, but the Rox finally broke through in the fourth. Jack Winkler (San Francisco) drove in Justin Kirby (Kent State) to open the scoring and take a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, the Rox would strike again as Kirby drove in Nate Swarts (Washington State) on an RBI single of his own.
The Rox put the game away in the seventh after Chris Esposito (Nebraska-Omaha) came into score on a wild pitch. Then, Andrew Pinckney (Alabama) brought in St. Cloud's final run of the game on a double to left-center field.
Zach Gagnon (Tarleton State) finished off the game out of the bullpen with two solid innings. Gagnon gave up one hit and one walk and closed out the Rox' sweep of the Mud Puppies.
Next, the Rox will look to keep their hot streak going against the La Crosse Loggers. The first of two games at Joe Faber Field between St. Cloud and La Crosse will begin at 7:05 pm on Monday night.
