(Portland, ME) - Portland's bullpen issued eight walks as Altoona scored the game's final six runs to complete a three-game sweep of the Sea Dogs, 10-7 on Thursday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd of 7,368 at Hadlock Field.
The Sea Dogs have lost six straight at home and were swept at Hadlock Field for the third time this season.
Beau Vaughan (1-3) had a tough outing for Portland, issuing six walks in 1+ inning to take the loss. Altoona tied the game at six in the seventh inning on three straight walks with two outs by Vaughan. In the eighth inning, Vaughan issued two straight free passes before being relieved by Mike James. Jason Delaney knocked in the game-winning with an RBI single. Javier Guzman added a sacrifice fly.
Portland pitchers matched a season-high with 11 walks - eight came from the bullpen.
In the eighth inning, the Curve added insurance to their lead on a two-run single with two outs by Neil Walker.
Chris Hernandez (5-1) worked two scoreless innings to earn his second victory of the series. The Sea Dogs added a run in the ninth inning off Matt Peterson but John Otness, who represented the tying run, ended the game by flying out to left field.
Bubba Bell was the offensive start for Portland, going 3-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI. Bell smacked his 4th homer with two outs in the first and picked up RBI singles during innings three and four.
The Sea Dogs scored in the first four innings off Altoona starter Dewon Brazelton. Iggy Suarez and Zach Borowiak had RBI singles, aiding Portland to a 6-4 lead after four innings.
Portland starter Tommy Hottovy worked three and 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs. Altoona's Javier Guzman went 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI. Walker and Delaney each knocked in two for the visitors.
Jose Vaquedano yielded three hits and one run in 2 and 2/3 innings of relief for Portland.
The Sea Dogs continue their 6-game homestand on Friday night when they entertain in the Harrisburg Senators - Game time is 7:00 PM.
