Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

WICHITA, KS - The Lincoln Saltdogs had their hearts broken again on Wednesday, losing 5-4 in ten innings to the Wichita Wingnuts. Lincoln lost all three games of the series in extra innings, and now sits at 25-19 on the second half of the season.

The ballgame came to a sudden end in the bottom of the tenth. Lincoln reliever Matt Petrusek (2-2) had pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, but his 0-1 pitch to Wichita's Greg Porter was hit high over the fence in right field. Porter, a leading candidate for American Association Player of the Year, gave the Wingnuts their third straight walkoff win over the Saltdogs.

Wichita seized momentum early in the game, plating three first-inning runs against Lincoln starter Jarrett Gardner, but the Saltdogs bounced back quickly. Shea McFeely hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning to cut the deficit to two. One inning later, Phil Hawke cracked a two-run homer, his 11th of the season, to tie the game at three.

Lincoln took a 4-3 lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Argelis Nuñez, but the Wingnuts again found a way to tie the game in the later innings. John Martin led off the bottom of the seventh with a single. He stole second and went to third on a throwing error on the play, and then scored on an RBI single by Brenan Herrera.

Hawke finished the night 2-for-3 with the home run, a single, two RBI and two walks. The two free passes gave him 66 on the season, which ties the Saltdogs' single-season mark.

The Saltdogs open a four-game series at Sioux Falls Thursday night at 7:05. Righty Tim Brown will make the start for Lincoln.
