Fort Worth Cats News Release

Ryan Patterson's RBI single scored Michael Bell in the ninth inning as the Cats downed Pensacola 1-0 on Wednesday night at LaGrave Field.

In front of a crowd of 3,762 watching the regular season home finale, the Cats and Pelicans played scoreless baseball through eight.

Cats' starter Joel Kirsten allowed no runs on five hits in seven innings of work while throwing exactly 100 pitches. Dustin Cameron came on for a scoreless eighth before Scott Vander Weg (2-1) retired the side in order in the ninth.

The Pelicans had a number of chances to score throughout the game as they left nine runners on base including four in scoring position, but Cats' pitching held tight.

Kevin Cooper, the Pelicans starter, also fared well, throwing six shutout innings in his third start of the season. Reliever Bubba Nelson (3-5) entered the game in the seven inning and retired the first seven batters he faced before walking Bell with one out in the ninth. During Patterson's at bat, Nelson uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Bell to advance to second.

On a 3-2 pitch, Patterson singled through the right side and Bell scampered home from second with the winning run and slid in ahead of the throw to give the Cats a 1-0 win.

It was the team's seventh shutout this season as they defeated the Pelicans for the first time in six attempts in Fort Worth this season. The season series ended Pensacola ahead 9-6.

The Cats head to El Paso for a four-game series to conclude the regular season. Game time Thursday is 8:05 p.m. CDT with Jae Jung on the hill for Fort Worth.
