Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, Nebraska - Buddy Baumann struck out a franchise-record 15 batters, and the Lincoln Saltdogs rallied for four runs in the 8th inning to beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-2 at Haymarket Park on Friday night.
Baumann's 15 strikeouts surpassed the 14 that Joe Bisenius (2014) and Clay Eason (2001) recorded to tie the previous record, and the 'Dogs came from behind for the sixth time in a game this year.
Josh Altmann reached on an error to begin the 8th inning, and the 'Dogs (10-3) loaded the bases when Welington Dotel singled and Eddy Martinez walked. Altmann scored on a wild pitch, before Matt Goodheart delivered a go-ahead RBI single. Hunter Clanin added a two-out, two-run double to make it 5-2.
Brandon Cunniff worked around two baserunners for his fifth save in as many tries, and the game ended when Eric Rivera was caught between second and third while the ball was returned from the outfield following the second out, as Max Murphy readied for a chance to hit as the tying run.
Carter Hope earned his third win of the year with a 1-2-3 8th inning, and with his two strikeouts the 'Dogs finished with a season-high 17.
David Washington opened the scoring with his sixth homer of the year - a leadoff shot in the 2nd. Garett Delano tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning, but Reggie Pruitt Jr. broke the deadlock with Winnipeg's (6-9) homer in the 5th.
Clanin extended his team-best on-base streak to 12 with two hits and an intentional walk, while Delano had two more hits and a walk. Matt Goodheart had two hits, while Welington Dotel had a single, walk and a run scored.
The 'Dogs have won five straight series to begin the year, and the 'Dogs now have a chance to sweep the series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., and pregame coverage begins at 12:35 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
