Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped a heartbreaker on Monday, falling 10-9 at Sioux Falls. Lincoln drops to 39-35 on the season, 10-16 in the second half.

Lincoln led throughout most of the game, taking a 9-6 lead into the bottom of the eighth. Sioux Falls, however, led off the frame with an infield hit off of Adam Daniels (6-3). A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases, and another hit batter made it 9-7. Beau Torbert then chopped a single to center, scoring two to tie the game. Daniels got a popout with runners on the corners to keep the game tied for the moment, but Trevor Lawhorn followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run.

The Saltdogs looked good early, scoring five runs in the second inning. Roberto Alvarez hit a two-run homer, and Jeremy Gillan, Gavin Dickey and Rafael Alvarez all hit RBI singles later in the inning. Sioux Falls scored one in the third and two in the fourth to pull within two, but Lincoln responded with three more runs in the fifth. Juan Richardson and Juan Camacho each hit solo homers in the frame, and Albenis Machado added an RBI single. The Pheasants scored one in the bottom of the fifth, Lincoln added a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Jones, and Sioux Falls scored twice in the bottom of the seventh.

Roberto Alvarez went 2-for-3 with the home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Camacho, Machado and Gillan also had two-hit nights for the Saltdogs. Lincoln lost two outfielders during the game, with Argelis Nunez being replaced before the bottom of the fourth inning, and Dickey leaving after being hit by a pitch in the fifth. Nick Tyson, who was Lincoln's starting pitcher on Sunday, played the final five innings in center field.

The two teams play the finale of their three-game series Tuesday night at 7:05. Right-hander Jim Paduch will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
