SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants trailed by five runs at three different points on Monday night but fought back to oust the Lincoln Saltdogs in a 10-9 shootout. The Pheasants bolstered their league-best record to 51-23 and gained a 2 1/2-game lead in the second-half division race.

Beau Torbert cracked four hits, including a bases-loaded, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning that tied the game at 9-9. Torbert leads the American Association with 115 hits and bolstered his average to .381.

Trevor Lawhorn hit a deep sacrifice fly in the eighth to give the Pheasants the 10-9 lead, capping a four-run rally. Lawhorn also had a two-run double in the seventh to slash the lead to 9-6. He finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a sacrifice fly.

The Pheasants took advantage of Lincoln reliever Adam Daniels (6-3), who loaded the bases in the eighth with an infield hit, a walk and two hit batters before Torbert's game-tying hit.

Aaron Cotter pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 20th save -- tops in the league. Cotter has not allowed a run in 10 consecutive appearances, dating back to July 12. Ben Rosen (1-0) allowed one run in relief of starter Travis Kane. He tossed 3 2/3 innings and picked up his first professional win.

Tim Hutting, Hunter Jobes and Eddy Rodriguez also had two-hit performances for the Pheasants.

The Pheasants go for a sweep of the three-game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2. It's Double Play Tuesday, where fans can purchase any two grandstand tickets for the price of one.
