Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
Grand Prairie, TX. Pensacola snapped Grand Prairie's winning streak with a 5-3 victory Monday night at QuikTrip Park. The AirHogs had won three in a row entering the contest.
The first place Pelicans overcame an early 3-0 deficit to tie the game in the fifth inning then scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Pensacola had a four and a half game lead over Shreveport-Bossier City and a six-game cushion over Fort Worth in the second half of the South Division entering the game.
The AirHogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Antoin Gray. Gray's hit scored Daniel Berg, who had singled and stole second.
In the third inning Jason Stokes blasted a two-run home run completely out of the stadium in left to make it 3-0. Stokes' home run, which scored David Espinosa, landed just beyond one of the exit gates adjacent to the Left Field Spirits and Grill Restaurant.
Pensacola came back in its half of the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. The Pelicans got a RBI triple from Carlos Leon and a RBI single from Dallas Christison. The third run scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Francisco Leandro.
The Pelicans then took a 4-3 lead in the seventh when Christison singled, stole second and scored on Leandro's RBI single to right.
The AirHogs threatened in the bottom of the eighth with runners at second and third and one out but could not score. Grand Prairie again threatened in the bottom of the ninth when Daniel Berg reached on an error and Espinosa walked. Greg Porter, however, flew out to deep center to end the game.
