Mankato MoonDogs News Release
MANKATO, MN- The Mankato MoonDogs, a member of the Northwood's League, played host to the Rochester Honkers for a scheduled seven inning double header as the teams attempted to make up the original home-opener from last Friday.
The first game was underway and the Honkers jumped out to the early lead scoring two runs in the first thanks to multiple walks from MoonDogs' starter Connor Herd. The Honkers added two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third the MoonDogs came to life and scored four to tie it up. Jake Shepski was a major contributor for the 'Dogs that inning as he drove in two after he doubled and later came around to score in the same inning after he crossed home plate on a pass ball from the Honkers.
In the sixth inning the Honkers retook the lead with three runs in the top half, only to have the MoonDogs bark back with two of their own in the bottom half after Bryce Adams and Chase Hamilton both drew walks and later came around to score.
After a scoreless seventh from the Honkers the MoonDogs were readying to come to bat in the bottom half in a last chance attempt to either tie or win the game.
Their bats would never get a chance, however, as rain and lightning began to come down onto The Frank. After over an hour's worth of rain delay, game one was finally called. After six innings, the Honker's 7-6 lead became the final score. Mankato has now lost three straight games.
Tomorrow the MoonDogs will play a double header against the Honkers at Mayo Field in Rochester, with game one starting at 6:05 PM. Game two will begin approximately 30 minutes after the first game concludes. Both games can be heard on the Listen Live Tab at www.mankatomoondogs.com
The MoonDogs will be home on Friday for a weekend series against the Eau Claire Express. First pitch will be at 7:05 PM at Franklin Rogers Park.
Season and single game tickets are now on sale, call 507-625-7047 or visit the MoonDogs' office at 1221 Caledonia Street in Mankato for more information.
