Bullfrogs Get Bats Going Late, Not Enough After Slow Start
June 9, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Bullfrogs fell behind early to the Growlers and the deficit was too large to overcome. After the second inning the Bullfrogs were chasing fives run and the Growlers would never look back. The losing streak moves to four games and the Bullfrogs record now sits at 3-7.
Dakota Klein (Texas A&M) got the start for the Bullfrogs tonight. He ran into trouble in the second inning. After walking three and surrounding two hits in the inning, Skip Handelsman replaced Klein with the hard throwing right hander Nick Winston (University of Tampa). Winston was unable to record an out as he allowed the two batters he faced reach base via walks. Peter Castillo (Palm Beach State College) entered the game and got two outs to end the inning. The Growlers would score five runs on two hits, five walks, and one Bullfrogs error.
Matt Ellenbest (Morehead State) would come on to pitch in the top of the third. He was a bright spot for the Bullfrogs as he went four plus innings, giving up no earned runs. Logan Elliot (Mississippi St.) and Matt McCarthy (Penn State) would finish out the rest of the game on the mound.
Offensively, the Bullfrogs were led by Zach Biermann (Polk State College). The big left handed first baseman finished with two hits, one being a double. The Bullfrogs were threatening in the bottom of the sixth but only pushed one run across. Chris Botsoe (Louisville) finished with two hits and one stolen base, Colton Onstott (Dodge City Community College) had a pair of hits to go along with an RBI.
Tanner Andrews (Purdue) pitched a solid game for the Growlers as he went six innings allowing one run and striking out five. They were led by TJ Marick (Austin Peay) and Nick Hutchins. Both recorded two hits and an RBI a piece.
The Bullfrogs will be back in action tomorrow night as they face the Battle Creek Bombers in a two game series.
First pitch is slated for 7:05pm, gates open at 6:05pm. Whiplash, the dog riding cowboy monkey, will be entertaining fans throughout the game.
