
'Chucks Win, Split Series in Battle Creek

Wausau, WIS - Starting pitcher Connor Hock (Notre Dame) threw five innings of two-run and the bullpen followed him by giving up only an unearned run in four innings, the Wisconsin Woodchucks and topped Battle Creek Bombers, 4-3, at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Mac Caples (Virginia Tech) had two doubles in his first two at-bats, including one in the third inning that drove in the first two runs of the Woodchucks' road trip and tied the game at two.
The 'Chucks added two more runs in the top of the tird inning on four hits - supplied by Chad Fleischman (Lamar), Javier Martinez (Northwood University), Josh Goulet (Plymouth State) and Cole Daily (Notre Dame).
After that, Hock and the bullpen took care of the rest.
Connor Brewster (San Francisco) allowed an unearned run in the sixth, and Dallas Gibson (Lipscomb), Evy Ruibal (Notre Dame) and Gordon Cardenas (Auburn) followed with scoreless frame. Cardenas also got the save, his second of the season.
Wisconsin improves to 6-3 on the season and retakes second place. First pitch tomorrow is at 6:05 CT against Kalamazoo in the first of a two-game series.
