
Dogs Blast Four Home Runs in 6-1 Win

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs (7-2, 48-31) homered four times in 6-1 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-6, 38-40) on Friday night. The Sea Dogs remain in first place in the Northeast Division of the Eastern League.
Tyler McDonough and Corey Rosier hit their second home runs in as many days while Phillip Sikes and Niko Kavadas also crushed homers to combine for four Portland home runs on the night, matching a season-high for the team. CJ Liu matched a career-high while setting a new season-high with ten strikeouts in his start. Liu matched a season-high 7.0 innings pitched while only allowing one run.
Binghamton plated the first run of the ballgame after an RBI double from Brandon McIlwain in the top of the first.
McDonough tied the game with his second home run in as many days in the bottom of the third. The solo blast marked his fourth of the season. The home runs continued as Rosier hit his third home run of the series and second in back-to-back days to put Portland on top 2-1.
Portland plated another in the bottom of the fourth after Nathan Hickey scored from third while Matthew Lugo was caught stealing at second.
A pair of home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning extended the Portland lead to 5-1. Phillip Sikes blasted a solo homer deep to center field to record his fourth of the season before Niko Kavadas came to the plate and crushed his team-leading fourteenth home run of the season to right center field.
Tyler McDonough grounded into a force out to allow Alex Binelas to score and Portland added another to make it 6-1.
RHP CJ Liu (5-6, 4.21 ERA) was awarded the win tossing 7.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out 10. RHP Jose Chacin (1-5, 5.50 ERA) was given the loss pitching 4.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three.
The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field tomorrow, July 8, 2023 to host the Binghamton Rumble Ponies for game five of a six-game series. First pitch for game five is slated for 6:00pm. Portland will send RHP Grant Gambrell (2-2, 4.04 ERA) to the mound while Binghamton will start RHP Luis Moreno (6-2, 4.56 ERA).
