Dickey throws knucklers, RedHawks lose
July 24, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release
R.A. Dickey became R.A. Niekro Sunday at SBC Bricktown Ballpark.
Dickey, the all-time RedHawks leader in wins, starts and innings, threw mostly knuckleballs in Oklahoma's 12-2 loss to Iowa. Dickey went 5.2 innings and gave up 12 runs on 14 hits.
Dickey has thrown a hard knuckleball as an off-speed pitch in previous starts. However, Sunday was the first time he has used the knuckler primarily.
Dickey allowed three runs on four hits through the first four innings. However, he gave up three in the fifth and six in the sixth inning.
Offensively, Chris Richard led the RedHawks with a solo home run in the second innings. Jason Botts led off the fourth with a triple and scored on a ground out by Jason Conti.
The RedHawks finish their series and homestand at 7:05 p.m. Monday against Iowa at SBC Bricktown Ballpark. It's BMW Motorcycle Monday and the first 50 fans to park their motorcycle on the plaza in front of the ballpark receive free tickets to the game.
