Binghamton Devils News Release
SYRACUSE - The Binghamton Devils could not hang on to a 2-0 lead in Syracuse on Wednesday night as the Crunch scored five goals in a row for a 5-2 win.
John Quenneville scored the first two goals of the game to give the Devils a 2-0 lead on the road. With players stacked up trying to find the loose puck, Brandon Gignac set up Quenneville to beat Eddie Pasquale on the power play for a 1-0 lead 7:08 into the game. Gignac and Nick Lappin were credited with the assists on Quenneville's second of the year.
Binghamton took a 2-0 lead on Quenneville's second of the night and third of the year. Ryan Schmelzer took a pass from Quenneville and returned it to him in front of the net for the two-goal lead at 12:20 of the first with Marian Studenic picking up the other assist.
Eddie Lack took a penalty as he pushed Cory Conachar to the ice later in the period and Syracuse converted on the man advantage. Alex Barre-Boulet's shot bounced up in the air, over the head of Lack, and into the net for his third of the year at 15:34. The Devils took a one-goal lead into the intermission along with an 11-9 shot advantage.
Cal Foote evened the score at two as he took a pass from Cory Conachar and found the stick of Andy Andreoff who tipped the puck by Lack. The goal was Andreoff's seventh of the year with assists from Foote and Conachar just 2:10 into the second.
The Crunch took the lead for good as Cameron Gaunce put in a power-play goal from the left point. After Kevin Rooney was stopped on a shorthanded breakaway, Gaunce let a slap shot go from the left point that went over the left shoulder of Lack for a 3-2 lead.
Cory Conachar beat Lack from the right wing circle with a snap shot to give the Crunch a 4-2 lead with just 2:26 left in the middle period. The goal was Conachar's sixth of the year with assists from Dominik Masin and Cal Foote.
Pasquale collected the win with 24 saves while Lack picked up the loss with 30 saves.
After a three-game road trip, the Devils return home on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 14 against the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05 p.m. It's another Student Rush Night! Students can get tickets for just $5.
