Laval Rocket News Release
LAVAL - The Laval Rocket had never defeated the Toronto Marlies at home until Tuesday night, where they changed this statistic by taking down their biggest rivals 6-2 at Place Bell due to two powerplay goals, three penalty kills, and points from 12 different players.
The first period saw a total of five pucks cross the goal line, of which three were in favour of the Rocket. Fifty-nine seconds into the game Alexandre Grenier fooled Toronto netminder Jeff Glass into thinking he was going for a wraparound, but instead passed the puck back to Lukas Vejdemo who jammed it by the pads of Glass. Though Toronto netted a breakaway goal two minutes later, two powerplay goals from Joël Bouchard's troops allowed them to chase Jeff Glass in favor of Eamon McAdam and allowed them to take a 3-1 over their opponent, who would make it 3-2 by period's end.
An early powerplay in the second gave the Marlies an opportunity to tie the game, but instead the Rocket spent almost the entire penalty kill in the defensive zone of last year's Calder Cup champions. The pressure forced Toronto to turn over the puck as the penalty expired which paved the way for Vejdemo's second goal of the evening, and Maxim Lamarche added to Laval's lead with his first of the season to make it 5-2 after two.
"He was really good, and the last couple of games he's had a lot of good moments," said Bouchard of Vejdemo, who was the game's first star. "I'm tough with him and I ask a lot of him, and he knows it. But I like him a lot, and I like his investment [in the team]."
The efforts of Vejdemo and that of his teammates limited the Marlies to just three shots on goal in the final 20 minutes, all of which were turned away by Charlie Lindgren. The third period also allowed Daniel Audette to score his second of the season, locking in the final score of 6-2.
