Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After going down by two, the Syracuse Crunch put up five unanswered goals to roll past the Binghamton Devils, 5-2, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
The win puts the Crunch on a five-game points streak and four-game home winning streak, while advancing the team to 6-5-1-0 on the season and 2-0 in the 10-game season series against the Devils.
Goaltender Eddie Pasquale earned the win with 24 saves in net for the Crunch. Eddie Lack stopped 30-of-34 between the pipes for the Devils. Syracuse maintained its productive power play going 2-for-7 and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Devils opened scoring with two goals five minutes apart in the first period. After a scramble in front of the net, the puck kicked loose for John Quenneville to clean up from the slot while on the power play. Brandon Gignac and Nick Lappin assisted on the goal. At the 12:20 mark, Quenneville potted his second of the game from the crease on a give-and-go play with Marian Studenic. Ryan Schmelzer earned the secondary helper.
The Crunch finally responded on the man-advantage with 4:26 remaining in the opening frame. Carter Verhaeghe got a pass from Nolan Valleau and sent a cross-zone feed down to Alex Barré-Boulet at the post. His shot hit Lack, but bounded over the goaltender and across the goal line.
Syracuse put up three unanswered goals in the middle stanza to build a 4-2 lead. At the 2:10 mark, Andy Andreoff tipped Cal Foote's right point shot to tie the game. Cory Conacher picked up a point on the equalizer. The Crunch recorded their second power-play goal of the night at the 15:19 mark when Cameron Gaunce found the top corner with a slapshot from the blue line with the help of Taylor Raddysh and Ross Colton.
With 2:26 remaining in the second period, Conacher got the puck from Dominik Masin in the defensive zone, sped down the ice and sniped a shot from the right circle to double up the Devils. Foote recorded his first career multi-point game with the secondary assist.
Alex Volkov added an empty-netter in the final seconds of the game off assists from Hubert Labrie and Gaunce to secure the home ice win.
The Crunch travel to face the Utica Comets on Friday at 7 p.m.
