Albany Devils News Release

LOWELL, Mass. - Needing a win to clinch the fourth seed in the Atlantic Division, the Lowell Devils pulled away from the Providence Bruins, 6-3, on Sunday at Tsongas Center. The win and a Bridgeport loss secured the Worcester Sharks as the Devils' first-round opponent in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

With the game tied heading into the third period, Myles Stoesz picked a perfect time to notch his first goal of the season. Returning to the line-up after missing 11 games, Stoesz had his initial wraparound shot stopped by Dany Sabourin, but another whack at the puck sent it across the goal line to give the Devils a 4-3 lead at 4:00 of the period.

Stoesz' tally would be the first of three in the final frame that allowed Lowell to skate away with the win. Ben Walter padded the lead four minutes later when Brad Snetsinger backhanded the puck to him in the slot and teed up a snapshot for his 22nd of the season.

Lowell then put the game out of reach with less than four minutes left in regulation. Swift was the benefactor of a flurry of chances toward Sabourin that the Devils center eventually poked to the back of the net for his 24th of the year.

The Devils struck first 5:31 into the game despite being on the penalty kill. Matt Cohen found Kory Nagy streaking down the left wing for a wrist shot that flew over the Sabourin's shoulder.

On the same power play, Providence would knot the score as Alain Goulet sailed a shot from the point that slipped past the leg pad of Jeff Frazee.

Lowell answered 25 seconds later when Nick Palmieri and Alexander Vasyunov created a 2-on-1 for the Devils. Palmieri passed it off to Vasyunov who popped in his 16th of year with a wrister to the top corner.

In what would be a recurring theme, Providence pulled even with four minutes left until the intermission on Jeff LoVecchio's rebound goal. Nathan Perkovich put the Devils ahead, 3-2, at 3:49 of the second when he reeled in his own rebound and stuffed it inside the far post.

The Bruins evened the score for the third time on its third power play of the game. Goulet gathered his second of the match, again beating Frazee with a fluttering shot from the blueline.

Jeff Frazee stopped 30 of 33 shots he faced to improve his record to 15-16-0.
