Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-- The Milwaukee Admirals got a goal from Ryan Thang and 22 saves from Chet Pickard, but came up short against Grand Rapids in their regular season finale at the Bradley Center. Grand Rapids rallied from a 1-0 deficit to score two unanswered goals early in the third period, both of which came off the stick of winger Jeremy Williams.
Things started out promising for the Milwaukee. Admirals Rookie Thang registered his third goal of the season at 3:53 of the second period. Thang poked loose the puck and proceeded to chip it ahead to himself off the boards. Thang then outskated the defending Griffin before uncorking a hard wrister past the stick of Grand Rapids goal tender Daniel Larrson for a 1-0 Milwaukee lead.
The Admirals took that tenuous 1-0 lead into the third period, but Grand Rapids knotted the score quickly, only 27 seconds into the third. Williams dished to teammate Jordan Owens, then crashed toward the net where he received an Owens pass and smashed the biscuit past Pickard's glove for an equalizer goal, his 31st of the season.
Williams lit the lamp again, this time on the power play, barely a minute later. Grand Rapids attack mounted an offensive charge with the help of a Teemu Laakso hooking penalty that sent the Admirals defensemen to the sin bin for the mandatory two minutes. Mattias Ritola found Williams atop the left trapezoid all the way from the right point. Williams beat Pickard's glove, catching the goal tender off balance as he moved from left to right in the crease.
Milwaukee went with an empty net with 1:21 remaining in the third period but couldn't slip one past Larrson in the final seconds as the Ads lost the home finale 2-1.
Milwaukee now sets its sight on the Calder Cup Playoffs where they will square off with the Chicago Wolves in West Division Semifinals. Game one of the series will take place on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm at the All-State Arena. The Ads will host games three and four on Saturday, April 17 at 7:00 and Monday, April 19 at 7:00 pm respectively.
Fans can buy tickets for games three and four by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Groups of ten or more people receive a minimum of $2 off of each ticket. For more information or to order group tickets call the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550.
