Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose ended their 2009-10 regular season schedule with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Peoria Rivermen in front of 12,301 fans at MTS Centre on Saturday night. Mike Keane notched the shootout winner for Manitoba while Cory Schneider stopped 28 of 29 shots in his 60th appearance this season.

By the midway point of the first period the Moose had fired seven shots on goaltender Ben Bishop while the Rivermen tallied two on Cory Schneider. Both netminders held strong through 20 minutes of play and the game remained scoreless going into the second period.

Yan Stastny's slashing penalty 37 seconds in the second frame put the Rivermen on the first powerplay of the night. Peoria fired one shot on net during the two-minute advantage, but Schneider and Manitoba's penalty killers held strong.

The powerplay tables turned in favor of Manitoba at 7:54 when Ian Cole was penalized for holding the stick. But like the Rivermen, the home team was unable to capitalize on their opening advantage.

After 40 minutes of play, the Moose were outshooting the Rivermen 23-20 but the game still remained scoreless.

At 3:35 of the third period, the Rivermen broke onto the scoreboard. With a flurry of player's in front of Manitoba's net, Darryl Boyle slapped the puck from the blueline and through Schneider's five-hole for a 1-0 lead.

At 9:11 the Moose broke their goose-egg when Mario Bliznak smacked the puck into the open cage to knot the game at one.
