Abbotsford wins in shootout

CLEVELAND OH - The Abbotsford Heat needed a furious late third period rally to come back and beat the Lake Erie Monsters 4-3 in the shootout on Saturday night. With the win, the Heat have secured third place in the North Division and a first round playoff matchup with the Rochester Americans.

Mitch Wahl scored his first AHL goal and assisted on the game tying goal with under two minutes to play in the third period to force the extra period. David Van der Gulik and Cam Cunning also scored for the Heat, while David Shantz stopped five of six shots in the shootout to help the Heat grab the extra point. Staffan Kronwalll secured the win with a shootout winner in round six.

The Heat will finish their regular season in Toronto on Sunday afternoon before making their way to Rochester to open the playoffs versus the Amerks on Thursday night.
