December 29, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Guillaume Desbiens scored twice for the Gwinnett Gladiators, including the game winner to lead them to a 5-1 decision over the Augusta Lynx Thursday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Gwinnett grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Desbiens, Jimmy Sharrow, and Derek Nesbitt. Nesbitt scored a power play marker at 15:49 off a tipped shot that gave no chance to Lynx starter Mike Wall, who was screened on the play.
Milan Gajic went end-to-end in the second period, scoring a picturesque goal at 1:15 for the only marker of the second period to make it 4-0 Gwinnett after 40 minutes of play.
The Lynx finally found the scoresheet at 1:15 of the final frame, with Joe Pereira notching a power play goal from Chris Leinweber and Ryan Lang to make it 4-1 Gwinnett. The Gladiators would ice the game at 2:46, coming right back to grab the four-goal lead on Desbiens' second goal of the evening for the 5-1 final.
Adam Berkhoel earned the win for the Gladiators with 32 saves, while Wall took the loss by turning aside 40 shots from Gwinnett. Augusta finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while Gwinnett went 1-for-2.
Augusta is back in action on Friday night against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 pm, and will head to the North Charleston Coliseum to finish off the home-and-home series New Year's Eve beginning at 6 pm. Tickets are on sale now by calling the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, through all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
