Gulls Mourn Loss

December 29, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release

It is with a heavy heart that the San Diego Gulls announce the tragic passing of Kelly McGinnis, a volunteer on-ice assistant to the team's Operations Department.

Kelly, 18, of La Mesa died at 3:20 p.m. Saturday near the ramp from westbound State Route 52 to southbound Interstate 5.

Besides his duties with the Gulls, Kelly was an Apprentice Technician at Toyota of Escondido and a Skate Guard at the San Diego Ice Arena.

A memorial service will be held at the San Diego Kroc Center, on Wednesday January 4th (which coincidentally would have been Kelly's 19th birthday) at 9 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center building.

In lieu of flowers the McGinnis family is requesting that donations be made to the "Ramona High School Kelly McGinnis Fund" in support of the school's automotive welding program.

You can mail a donation to:
Ramona High School
Kelly McGinnis Memorial Fund
1401 Hanson Lane
Ramona, CA 92065

Additionally, the Gulls will be having a special Chuck-A-Puck offering during the game on January 4th with all proceeds going to the Kelly McGinnis Fund, and we will be dedicating the game on Friday January 6th to Kelly and will continue to celebrate his life through the remainder of this season with his name proudly displayed on the cross bars of each of our goals.

We invite all of you to please join us at one, or all 3, of the events celebrating Kelly's life.
