Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI- Traverse City Beach Bums starting pitcher David Deminsky pitched a complete game as they took the rubber game of a three-game series over the Normal Cornbelters in front of 3,829 fans at Wuerfel Park by a score of 5-1.

Deminsky (4-2) needed only 98 pitches to post the most impressive single-game pitching performance by a Beach Bum this season in earning his fourth win. The left hander struck out six batters, and did not issue a walk during the contest.

The Beach Bums jumped on top early with two runs in each the first and second innings. Traverse City third baseman Jeff Flagg drew a bases-loaded walk, left fielder J.T. Hall drove in a run with a single, and a pair of RBI's from shortstop Jose Vargas helped stake the Beach Bums to a 4-0 lead after two innings.

From there, Deminsky would cruise through the first 6.2 innings before allowing a run on an RBI-single from left fielder Mike Mobbs in the seventh. The Beach Bums would add two more as catcher Chris Kay scored on a wild pitch and Hall lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Beach Bums a 7-1 lead in the eighth inning.

Normal starting pitcher Brett Lester (4-5) pitched five innings for the Cornbelters in suffering his fifth loss of the season. The complete game was the second nine-inning complete game thrown by a Beach Bums pitcher this season. On Tuesday, Traverse City pitcher David Nathanson accomplished the feat for the first time in a 8-5 win in the first game of this three-game series.

With the win, the Beach Bums improve to 36-33, while Normal falls to 33-36 on the season. Beach Bums center fielder Zack Pace had two hits and scored three runs to lead the Traverse City offense. Vargas and Hall each tripled and finished the contest with two hits apiece.

The Beach Bums open up a three-game series against the Southern Illinois Miners on Fantastic Fireworks Friday and Breast Cancer Awareness Night, sponsored by Thompson Pharmacy at 7:05 p.m. Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Wuerfel Park is a great day to bring the family and honor those who are fighting against Breast Cancer.
