Joliet Slammers News Release

(Sauget, IL) - Jake Renshaw (8-4) threw his team leading third complete game of the season as the Joliet Slammers (40-28) swept the Gateway Grizzlies (28-40) with a 3-1 victory Thursday night.

Joliet got on the board in the top of the first as Gateway's defense handed them a run. With one away Brad Netzel singled up the middle. Hector Pellot followed with a single of his own that was badly misplayed by center fielder DJ Fitzgerald for a two-base error as Netzel came around to score.

Gateway immediately tied the game though as Brandon Peters smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the first.

After that Renshaw and Gateway starter Brad Stone traded tossing up zeroes on the scoreboard. That lasted until the eighth inning. With one away Pellot tallied his second single of the night. Then Erik Lis stepped to the plate and unloaded on a pitch for his team leading 16 th home run of the season and his third in the past two games.

Renshaw went the distance, scattering six hits, surrendering the lone run, walking two and striking out seven. For Renshaw it was his eighth win of the year, tying him for the league lead. It was also his third complete game in his last five starts. Renshaw threw 103 pitches, 71 of them for strikes in the victory.

The win propels the Slammers to a season high 12 games over .500 and a season long four game winning streak. They match their longest road winning streak of the year as it's their sixth straight victory away from Silver Cross Field. First place Joliet remains 4.5 games ahead of the Traverse City Beach Bums in the East Division.

The Slammers will look to keep the winning streak and their remarkable success on the road going Friday night against the River City Rascals who currently hold the best record in the Frontier League at 51-17. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Central Time and all the action can be heard starting at 6:50 on AM 1340 WJOL and www.wjol.com .
