Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Casey Delgado fired six shutout frames, striking out 10, as he paced the Traverse City Beach Bums to a 5-0 shutout victory of the Rockford Aviators on Friday night at Wuerfel Park.
Delgado (7-6) took over the league lead in strikeouts with his 10 punchouts, moving his season total to 108, one ahead of Southern Illinois' Matt Bywater. He worked around baserunners in five of his six frames, but kept the Aviators off the board. He ended up tossing six innings, walking five while yielding four hits against the 10 strikeouts. It's the third time this season he's reached double digits in K's.
Traverse City's offense provided all the support he would need in the third inning. With runners at first and second and two outs, Jose Vargas smoked a line drive into right-center to score Jeff DeBlieux, giving TC a 1-0 lead. Yazy Arbelo then hammered a three-run, opposite-field home run to up the advantage to 4-0. It was Arbelo's 17th homer of the year as he increased his RBI total to 60 on the year.
That was the only rough inning for Rockford starter Ryan Bonnot (0-2), who gave up four runs on six hits with three strikeouts in six innings.
The score stayed 4-0 until the eighth inning when Chris Cowell smacked a two-out RBI single to score Vargas, making it 5-0. Eric Eck, Nate O'Bryan and Will Rankin fired three scoreless frames out of the bullpen to preserve Traverse City's sixth shutout of the year.
The Beach Bums will look to win the series against the Aviators on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Scott Vachon (2-3, 4.50) will start for TC against Rockford's Kyle Brueggemann (5-8, 4.37). Miss America will be at Wuerfel Park on Saturday night taking pictures with fans from 5-6 p.m. while participating in in-game entertainment throughout the night. Fans can listen to the broadcast starting at 6:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
