Rockford Aviators News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums used a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run, to power past the Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson 5-0 tonight at Wuerfel Park.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, the Beach Bums found some offense and pushed four runs across the plate. Jeff DeBlieux came in to score on a RBI single by Jose Vargas to make the score 1-0 Beach Bums. The very next batter, Yazy Arbelo ripped his seventeenth home run of the year, a three-run shot, to put the Beach Bums up 4-0.
In the top of the fourth inning, Dusty Robinson appeared to lead off the inning with a solo home run that was ruled foul by the home plate umpire. Aviators' Manager, James Frisbie, came out to argue the call to no avail. Robinson would strike out on the next pitch and was ejected from the game immediately following the pitch after arguing with the umpire. Frisbie came out to argue again, but was not ejected.
However, due to Frontier League rules, both Robinson and Frisbie will have to serve a one-game suspension beginning with tomorrow's game. The ejection was the Aviators' seventh of the season.
According to the rules, after six ejections, the manager has to sit out three games, which Frisbie has already served. Any subsequent ejections, player or manager, will result in a one-game suspension for both player and manager if a player is ejected.
Ryan Bonnot earned the loss for the Aviators tonight after he allowed four runs on six hits while striking out four. He is now 0-2 on the season.
The Aviators left runners stranded in scoring position four times in the game and were never able to push a run across.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Beach Bums tacked on an insurance run on a RBI single by Chris Cowell that scored Vargas to make the score 5-0.
The Aviators will be back in action tomorrow night against the Beach Bums at 7:05 p.m. Eastern Time in Traverse City. Fans will be able to listen to Jared Revlett call the game on the Meridix Network. The link to the broadcast can be found at www.rockfordaviators.com.
