Washington Wins 3-2 in Extras at Gateway

Sauget, Illinois - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, capitalized off a bases-loaded walk in extra innings for a 3-2 comeback win over the Gateway Grizzlies at GCS Ballpark Friday.

In the bottom of the second inning the first run of the game was plated. Washington's defense provided a double play but allowed Gateway's infielder T.J. Bennett to score a run from third base, leaving the game 1-0. At the bottom of the seventh inning the Grizzlies added on an additional run from a RBI single by catcher Garrett Vail.

Gateway played their defense strategically with four double plays throughout the contest keeping Washington from scoring any runs in the game until the ninth inning.

Infielder Ryan Kresky started off the ninth inning with a single base knock. Outfielder Scott Kalamar then followed with a double, leaving second and third base occupied.Infielder Carter Bell then hit a ground ball that resulted in a two run error, tying the game 2-2

The game went into an extra inning battle and it didn't take long for Washington to load the bases again. Kalamar was walked with a bases loaded, giving Washington a 3-2 lead and the win of the night. Jonathan Kountis earned his 30th save of the season, continuing to pad his new Frontier League Record.
