Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists exploded at McCormick Field for the second straight night at the expense of the West Virginia Power. Asheville earned their largest win of the season one day after defeating West Virginia by 13 runs. On Saturday night the final score was 16-1.

Alfredo Garcia paced the pitching effort with his longest outing of the year. Garcia tossed seven innings and surrendered just one run. The Power plated their only run of the night in the fourth inning but it was Garcia who worked out of a jam and limited the damage that lit a spark.

Asheville manufactured a pair of runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Willie MacIver's RBI groundout opened the scoring and Danny Edgeworth's RBI single to right field made it 2-0. The Tourists then scored three runs in the fifth on a Grant Lavigne sacrifice fly, a Daniel Montano RBI double, and a John Cresto RBI single.

The Tourists blew the game open over the next three frames. Edgeworth hit a two-run Home Run in the sixth and added another two-run Homer in the eighth. Coco Montes and Kyle Datres also hit Home Runs for the second straight game. West Virginia had to pitch a position player for the second game in a row.

Asheville finished with a season-high 19 hits. Will Golsan, Edgeworth, Montano, and Datres all had a three-hit performance. PJ Poulin and Boby Johnson worked the final two innings on the mound for Asheville and did not allow any runs. The Tourists have outscored the Power 30-2 over the last two games.

The Tourists will attempt to win their third consecutive series with the finale scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm. Asheville currently has a two games to one advantage in the series.
