June 1, 2019 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Columbia, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets (26-29) and Columbia Fireflies (21-34) played another nail-biter on Saturday night. It was yet another one-run game, and it was Columbia hanging on this time for a 3-2 win at Segra Park.

So far this year, in six meetings between the two teams, the games have been decided by a total of nine runs.

For the 3rd consecutive night it was Columbia who scored the game's first run. After Chandler Avant singled, and reached 2nd base on a wild pitch, Mark Vientos smoked a double down the left field line, and Avant scored to make it 1-0 Columbia.

In the 3rd inning, it was a Vientos infield hit to score Gerson Molina from 3rd base. With the Fireflies leading 2-0 in the 4th inning, they'd tack on another run. This time it was the catcher Juan Uriarte with a two-out single to score Shervyen Newton and make the score 3-0 Columbia.

GreenJackets starting pitcher Blake Rivera ends his night after five innings, allowing three runs. He struckout six, and walked only one batter.

The GreenJackets laced up their two-out hitting shoes in the 5th frame. After Anyesber Siveri smacked his 2nd double of the night to put runners on 2nd and 3rd base, Ismael Munguia drove home the first run of the game for Augusta with a single. With the score at 3-1, it was Shane Matheny with an RBI base-hit to make it just a 3-2 lead for the Fireflies.

The GreenJackets put men on 1st and 2nd base in the 8th inning with nobody out, but Jose Moreno came into the game and got a huge double-play without allowing a run. Moreno would get the six-out save, as the Jackets couldn't grab a run in the 9th inning, and they fell in the third game of the series by a final of 3-2.

Player of the Game: JJ Santa Cruz, 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 SO

JJ Santa Cruz was sensational out of the GreenJackets bullpen. He would strike-out the side in the 7th inning and lowered his ERA down to 2.51 for the season.

Tomorrow's Game: 2:05 PM @ Columbia Fireflies (New York Mets), Segra Park, Columbia, South Carolina

Pitching Matchup: (COL) RHP Jose Butto (1-6, 4.69 ERA) vs (AUG) LHP Seth Corry (0-2, 2.84 ERA)

The southpaw Seth Corry will make his 11th start of the season for the GreenJackets. Corry leads Augusta in strikeouts with 59, but in his last two outings he has failed to make it past 3.1 innings, while he has walked nine batters total between his last two games. Corry is listed as the #25 prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization. He was a 3rd round pick by San Francisco in 2017, when the Giants drafted him out of Lone Peak High School in Highland, Utah.

On the mound for Columbia will be right-hander Jose Butto. Butto earned his first win of the season in his last start. He went six innings of shutout baseball and allowed just one hit against the Charleston RiverDogs on May 28th. The 21-year old will make his 11th start of the season tomorrow, and has 48 strikeouts to only 13 walks on the season. He was signed by the Mets in 2017.
