
Defenseman Starling Reassigned to Peoria from Houston

Peoria, Ill. (January 30, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that defenseman Chad Starling has been reassigned to the team from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Starling â a 6-foot-6, 225-pound defenseman â began the season on assignment with the Corpus Christi Rayz of the Central Hockey League (CHL), notching 11 points (4g, 7a) in 35 contests with 76 penalty minutes (PIM). The 23-year-old native of Delisle, Saskatchewan was on a one-way contract with the Peoria's AHL affiliate â the Worcester IceCats â in 2002-2003, competing in 34 games with one assist and 36 PIM. The former fourth round (114th overall) pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft played in 10 games with the Rivermen to complete the season, posting seven points (3g, 4a) with six (6) PIM.
As a rookie in 2001-2002, Starling notched 10 assists in 66 games with the Rivermen with 94 PIM. He competed for the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL) for two of his three full seasons (1998-2000) of Major Junior "A" hockey, posting 28 points (8g, 20a) and 188 PIM in 116 games.
On Friday, January 30, the Rivermen host the Cincinnati Cyclones in the first of two in a row between the clubs. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Carver Arena. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts will perform in a post-game concert, sponsored by the Par-A-Dice Hotel-Casino. On Saturday, January 31, Peoria and Cincinnati do battle again at 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Rivermen Hat, courtesy of OSF â St. Francis Medical Center. On Sunday, February 1, the Rivermen host the archrival Toledo Storm at 1:00 p.m. to accommodate the Super Bowl. It is another Journal Star/Insight Media Family Day. Kids 12 and Under receive $2 Upper Bowl admissions. Kids meals, which include a Mike Valley player card, are available for $2.50 each. Chuckie from the Rugrats will also appear, courtesy of Nickelodeon.
