Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gladiators could not hold on to a 2-0 first period lead as they lost their third straight, a 3-2 loss to the Columbia Inferno in Columbia on Friday night.
Anthony Aquino's 16th goal of the season broke the Gladiators two game scoring drought 3:18 into the first period. The rookie forward took a drop pass form Kevin Doell and snapped a shot past Columbia netminder Josh Blackburn to give the Gladiators the 1-0 lead on the power play.
Gwinnett extended its lead to two goals with 3:31 left in the opening period as Paul Flache scored his first goal of the season as he ticked a shot off the crossbar and past Blackburn. Brandon Dietrich added an assist on the goal.
In the second, Columbia cut the lead to one goal as Barrie Moore picked up a rebound off a Trevor Prior kick save and flipped the puck past the netminder. Added the assists on the goal at 5:47 of the second period.
Sean Owens tied the game up at two as he snapped a shot past Prior on the short side. Matt Ulwelling added an assist on the goal at 12:51 of the second period.
Dennis Vial scored what proved to be the game winner on a slapshot from the left point that eluded Prior in the third. Barrie Moore and Tim Smith added the assists on the goal at 9:58 of the third period.
