Defenseman Scheffelmaier Reassigned from Worcester (AHL) by St. Louis (NHL)

Peoria, Ill. (November 19, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that defenseman Brett Scheffelmaier has been reassigned from the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate – the Worcester IceCats – by the NHL's St. Louis Blues.

Scheffelmaier – a 6-foot-5, 230-pound native of Coronation, Alberta – opened the year on injured reserve and will make his season debut tonight on the road against the archrival Toledo Storm. The 23-year-old backliner played in 10 games on reassignment with the Rivermen in 2003-2004, recording his first professional goal and three points (1g, 2a) along with 21 penalty minutes (PIM). In 23 games with Worcester last season, the third-year professional racked up 56 PIM with one assist.

As a rookie in 2002-2003, the fifth round selection (190th overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft finished third on the IceCats with 143 PIM, ranking fifth among AHL rookies. He also tied for fifth among AHL defensemen with 17 major penalties.

The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL – The Premier "AA" Hockey League. Peoria continues its ninth season in the 28-team league Saturday, November 20, when they host the archrival Toledo Storm for the first time this season. Game time is now at 7:30 p.m. It is Boy Scout Night. The Rivermen will wear special Boy Scout-themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the W.D. Boyce Boy Scout Council. The Cutting Edge Salon of Morton "Haircuts for Charity" returns as well. Haircuts will be available on the inner concourse in Section 9 for free with donations going to the Children's Hospital of Illinois.
