
Gladiators Fall to Checkers, 4-3 in Overtime

After falling behind 3-0 early in the second period, the Gwinnett Gladiators tallied a goal late in the second period and two goals late in the third period to send the game into overtime before Eddie Pershin's overtime goal midway through the overtime session gave the Charlotte Checkers a 4-3 overtime win in front of 10, 258 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday night. Charlotte stormed out to an early 1-0 lead as Jason Dawe ripped a snapshot from the right wing circle that beat goaltender T.J. Aceti at 10:01 of the first period. Dwight Helminen and Chris Belanger added the assists on the goal.
Mike Harder pushed the Charlotte lead to two goals early in the second period. Dusty Jamieson and Pershin added the assists on the goal at 1:47 of the period. Charlotte extended its lead to three goals on Lee Falardeau tally at the 8:09 mark of the second period. Pershin and Glenn added the assists on the goal.
Brett Engelhardt got things going for the Gladiators with just 17 seconds remaining in the second period on a falling down snapshot that fooled Charlotte netminder Kelly Guard. Kris Goodjohn and Ryan Van Buskirk added the assists on the goal. Gwinnett waited till late in the third period for their final two goals. Campbell ripped the first of the Gladiators last two goals past Guard at 17:14 of the third period. Another off balance shot, this time by Campbell unassisted, beat the netminder through the five hole.
Cam Brown's seventh goal of the season unassisted from 45 feet out ricocheted off all three posts past Guard for the tying goal at 18:30 of the third period to send the game into overtime. TJ Aceti made 20 saves in the loss as the Gladiators fall to 5-3-4 on the season following the loss while neither team was able to capitalize on the man advantage in the contest.
The Central Division Champion Gwinnett Gladiators continue their second season at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Thursday, November 25th at 7:05 p.m. as they host the South Carolina Stingrays.
