Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Mud Hens flashed some leather and won their second straight game on Thursday morning at Fifth Third Field by a score of 4-3 over the Bats. Toledo is now .500 on the season, with a 16-16 record.

Toledo was out to an early lead in the first inning following a walk issued to CF Cameron Maybin, a single from SS Dixon Machado, and a sacrifice bunt off the bat of 1B Casey McGehee. The Hens continued their damage following an RBI single from DH Nate Schierholtz and an RBI groundout from 2B Argenis Diaz, extending their lead to 3-0.

Toledo added to their 3-0 lead over the Bats in the fourth inning off of a single from Jordany Valdepsin, his fifth RBI of the season.

Thad Weber (4.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) got the call from Skipper Lloyd McClendon on Thursday morning. He did not give up a hit until the fourth inning, when he allowed two back-to-back singles with two outs. However, the starter struck out the remaining Louisville batter with no damage done. The Bats did notch three runs in the top of the fifth inning off of Weber, however, via three singles and two doubles. This cut the Hens lead to 4-3. Following this, lefty Chad Bell came on in relief for Toledo and retired the remaining batter.

Bell, Logan Kensing and Bobby Parnell combined to toss 4.2 scoreless innings for the home team. The ninth inning saw a threat from Louisville, with the tying run in scoring position with no outs. A throw-out at third from C Humberto Quintero, a spot-on bullet from Collins to home plate, and a lineout straight to Diaz ended the inning.

Toledo returns to action tomorrow at Fifth Third Field against Lehigh Valley for their first Eggs and Bacon game of the series. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
