Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) amassed 15 hits, a season high, in a 6-4 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Thursday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (18-17) had three different players post three hits and salvaged a split of the four-game set against the Red Sox (16-18).
Brady Lail (1-0) tossed a quality start to notch his first win of the season with SWB. The right-hander allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out three. Roenis Elias (0-3) shouldered the loss after allowing five runs on 11 hits in only four innings.
The RailRiders' Jake Cave welcomed fans by launching his first Triple-A homer out to right on the outset of the first inning.
Pawtucket capitalized on defensive miscues in the second inning to claim a 3-1 lead. Chris Marrero reached on a fielding error by third baseman Pete Kozma and Blake Swihart worked a walk to set the table. Rusney Castillo singled to load the bases and Ryan LaMarre plated the tying run by beating out a fielder's choice to second. A throwing error by Donovan Solano during the play allowed Swihart across for a 2-1 lead. Sandy Leon capped the frame with a run-scoring single, plating LaMarre.
From there, SWB assumed control. Cesar Puello and Kozma worked consecutive walks and Jonathan Diaz singled to load the bases. Cave tied the game 3-3 a bloop single to left, scoring the two lead runners.
Diaz opened the fourth inning with his second hit of the night. Aaron Judge followed with a go-ahead double, a line-drive missile off the left field wall that scored Diaz.
Solano opened the fifth with his third hit of the night and raced home on Diaz's third knock of the game for a 5-4 lead. Cave began the sixth with a double and Gary Sanchez drove him in with a single to wrap-up the evening's scoring.
The RailRiders step out of division play to host the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates) on Friday night at PNC Field. Right-hander Luis Cessa (0-1, 4.91) battles right-hander Frank Duncan (0-0, 0.00). It's "Glow in the Park Night" with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
