
Davies Pitches RailRiders Past Mud Hens

Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) completed a three-game sweep of the Toledo Mud Hens thanks to a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The brooming was the first for the RailRiders (56-47) against the Mud Hens (43-59) in a series of three games or more in the Yankees era. The triumph also pushed the RailRiders' winning streak to five games.
Kyle Davies (7-6) hurled a season-high eight innings, limiting the Mud Hens to a solo home run by Manny Pina in the second inning. He yielded two hits, three walks and struck out three. Davies finished his outing by retiring 19-of-20 hitters, including 10 straight.
Toledo got the the tying run to third base in the ninth against reliever Caleb Cotham, but the right-hander fanned Mike Hessman and Steven Moya to notch his first save. Thad Weber (6-7) shouldered the loss for Toledo after allowing two runs on six hits over 6.1 innings.
Trailing 1-0 in the third, Ben Gamel crushed a one-out triple to left-center. The three-baser was his third in as many days and his International League-leading 12th of the year. Jose Pirela plated his center fielder on a groundout to first.
Aaron Judge returned to the RailRiders' lineup and finished the day two-for-three. He opened the sixth with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Hessman at third. Cito Culver slammed his first Triple-A hit into center with two away and brought around Judge for the winning score.
The RailRiders continue their homestand on Monday night with the first of two against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at PNC Field. Right-hander Esmil Rogers (1-0, 3.38) is scheduled to start against left-hander Anthony Vasquez (6-3, 4.06). Tuesday night, July 28, Norwegian Cruise Lines presents an appearance by the Phillie Phanatic and a T-shirt giveaway to the first 1,00 fans through the gates.
